I love this charming, Chesapeake Bay wedding from Liz and Ryan Photography. Fun, DIY details and a “summertime meets nautical” feel is all this cute couple needed to complete their big day. Sweet bride – and DIY Queen – Jenn is here to share her planning insight:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I actually did not have a wedding coordinator to help with the planning process, except for a same day planner to help make sure the day went smoothly. Therefore I tended to rely on my organized binder for wedding day planning that included a tab for each vendor as well as due dates for vendor payments and venue deadlines. I would highly suggest organizing yourself in that way to make sure all your important contracts and papers are found in one place! Also, Microsoft excel is a great tool not only for your wedding list RSVP’s but also your wedding budget!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We relied heavily on recommendations from friends or family who had used our vendors in the past, mostly because it gave us a chance to get to know them before using them ourselves! In fact, our venue, DJ, florist, cupcakes, and photographers were all recommendations!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

There wasn’t really a theme for the wedding except for summertime on the Chesapeake Bay. Therefore I tended to incorporate a couple nautical-themed ideas with an underlying theme of bright colors. I loved the gray, navy, and yellow combination, and only added a pop of pink with the floral arrangements. Pinterest and Etsy provide great ideas as well for the look you are going for!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding, besides marrying my best friend, would have to be all the details that I spent so much time bringing together. I noticed through my planning process that I tended to care more about what every detail would look like and less and less about how I would look on the day! Not the most typical answer for most brides! I wanted my guests to notice the details, that was my goal.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Best piece of advice for other brides is DIY projects are a great way to add your own personal touch and style to your wedding day décor and design! Find that inspiration online and try to re-create it yourself. You will find that most craft stores have everything you need to recreate those crafty touches at a third of the cost. For example, guests love when you create a monogram for your day that you carry throughout your design and décor. Etsy has great designers that will give you the rights to a monogram for a great price that you can print and use everywhere! Your guests will definitely notice when you have put the time in to make things uniquely yours!

Great advice, Jenn! I love the preppy, nautical escort cards that Jenn created. The mini sailboats and sailor’s knots are too cute! How about you, are you planning a fun detail for your escort cards? I’d love to hear your ideas!

Happy Planning!
